Washingborough School is a state run Primary School. We were asked to look at all areas of the school but especially target areas where the greatest energy savings could be achieved, and where lighting could be improved. The entire School was refitted with the exception of the Main Hall and Kitchen as these were already fitted with energy efficient products.

Key Targets:
• Reduction of energy usage
• Improvement of light quality
• Payback of 5 years (for Salix Compliance)
• No disruption to day-to-day running of the school
In the classrooms and corridors the existing light fittings were relatively new and in good condition. This enabled use of our New retrofit LED T8 tubes installed into the existing fittings instead of having to replace entire fittings and tubes. This reduced the overall project cost and significantly reduced implementation time.

In all WC’s we used our New Intelligent Sensor lights to replace the existing 2D fittings. These maximise efficiency by only using the power needed to boost ambient light levels, or to illuminate when occupancy is detected. The improvement in light quality was significant. The installation took just 4 days and was completed with an amount of the work being carried out during term time with no disruption to activities.
Annual energy savings: £4,480
Annual maintenance savings £2,500
Payback period: 2.2 years
Annual CO2 savings: 18.5 tonnes
Total savings over 15 year lifespan: £104,700
The quality of light in the School is much improved. The installation took 4 days and was completed with minimal fuss during term time! We did not need to worry about where the cash would come from for the project as this was funded by the Salix Scheme.
